The older I get the more I realize that children can teach us so much about love and genuine compassion; and this story only exemplifies that.
Youth sports in the United States are taken extremely seriously, but imagine competing internationally at just 12 years old! How much pressure do you think would be on a kid playing for his or her home country? “A lot of pressure” would be an understatement.
When the nation of Japan hosted a club from Spain for soccer’s Junior World Challenge, the home country lost to the visitors 1-0. However, it’s what followed the game that will have a much bigger and longer lasting impact than any trophy ever could.
After falling to Barcelona’s under-12 team, the boys on Japan’s team were clearly devastated.
But rather than gloat in their own victory, the boys on Barcelona’s team consoled their former opponents. One by one, these boys showed the world what it means to be a true leader. Now this is what you call sportsmanship.
It’s clear and understandable that the game meant a lot to both sides, but at the end of the day life is about more than wins and losses. These little boys exemplified that in an incredible way.
Watch this amazing moment below, and see the genuine compassion and care in the faces of these children. Beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe the moment that these two teams shared with one another.
Now that’s how you win with grace! Those young boys just showed the entire world that there is more to sports than the final score. They may be young, but these boys have more character than most grown men. Please share this story of love and compassion today!
