Country music superstar Carrie Underwood gave her first interview since returning to the spotlight after a freak accident that left her with a broken wrist and about 50 stitches to her face.
Appearing on the Bobby Bones Show, Underwood finally explained what happened.
Underwood said she fell and hit the ground “around my mouth” while she was taking her dogs outside. The damage was apparently severe.
“If I had fallen anywhere else I would be perfectly fine, but it was one step that messed everything up,” she said. “I thought I just busted my lip when I walked outside. I went to go survey the damage and was like, ‘Oh no!'”
Underwood also shared that she was afraid her own son was going to be “scared” of her because of the scar on her face.
“I was worried he’d be scared of me,” she added. “Now, if I put makeup on, he’s like, ‘Mommy, your boo-boo is all gone.’”
Underwood said she’s now in a place where she feels comfortable talking about the accident. She also said she feels she’s been “very fortunate in the healing process,” which helps.
She recently made her triumphant return to the stage, performing her new hit single “Cry Pretty” at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
“I mean, I was lucky that when it happened everything was kind of shutting down in the music world, and we had the holidays and stuff like that. But I was at a point where I didn’t know how things were going to end up,” she said. “I didn’t know what was going to go on. I didn’t know what it was going to heal like.”
Carrie is as beautiful as ever in our book.
