Days after returning to the spotlight with her show-stopping performance at the Academy of Country Music Awards, Carrie Underwood shared her first close-up photo of her “new” face.
While the scar is slightly visible, as you can see, Underwood looks fantastic.
Underwood posted the brave photo on Instagram on Friday as she was preparing to cheer on her husband, NHL player Mike Fisher. You may notice she’s wearing a Nashville Predators hat.
The country music star has been very honest about her struggles with her injury and the uncertainty of how her scars would heal.
“I’ve been very fortunate in the healing process. I was lucky that when it happened, everything was kind of shutting down in the music world and we had the holidays and stuff like that,” she said in a recent radio interview. “I was at a point where I didn’t know how things were going to end up. I didn’t know what was going to go on. I didn’t know what it was going to heal like.”
She also revealed that she was privately terrified that her son might be “scared” of her because of the scar. Of course, a son’s love for his mother is an unbreakable bond. Her son is not scared.
“I was worried he’d be scared of me,” she added. “Now, if I put makeup on, he’s like, ‘Mommy, your boo-boo is all gone.’”
Underwood said she fell and hit the ground “around my mouth” while she was taking her dogs outside, causing serious injury.
“I thought I just busted my lip when I walked outside,” she said. “I went to go survey the damage and was like, ‘Oh no!’”
