President-elect Donald Trump’s latest picks for his administration have ‘the left’ claiming it to be the end of the world, but that’s to be expected with everything our future commander-in-chief does.
The outrage began with the selection of Steve Bannon as Trump’s Chief of Staff, which has since subsided because that’s what happens, people move on.
Lately there has been concern by the main-stream media about Trump’s choice for Secretary of State, Exxon Mobile CEO Rex Tillerson. While there are questions about his close ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin, many believe that this relationship could serve to help mend ties between the two countries.
Now there is an uproar over the Trump administration’s latest cabinet pick, and while it does have many on both sides scratching heads, the move is hardly outrageous.
Former Texas governor Rick Perry is said to be Trump’s pick for Energy Secretary. The irony of the situation is that it was once a department Perry wanted to eliminate altogether as a candidate (although he forgot about it on the debate stage). Now, he will be heading the department up, and will be responsible for the nation’s energy production. Trump’s hope is that Perry will be able to create jobs for millions of Americans.
“As the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry created created a business climate that produced millions of new jobs and lower energy prices in his state,” Trump said in a statement. “He will bring that same approach to our entire country as Secretary of Energy.”
During Obama’s term, the Energy Department focused on clean energy, but domestic production of oil has skyrocketed, and Trump believes that Perry is the perfect pick to lead America into an energy-independent nation.
“My administration is going to make sure we take advantage of our huge natural resource deposits to make America energy independent and create vast new wealth for our nation, and Rick Perry is going to do an amazing job as the leader of that process.”
The president-elect has never hidden his opinion on America’s role in oil production. In one of his books, “Crippled America” Trump criticizes the leaders of the country for not doing their part in establishing the U.S. as the world’s leader in energy production. “I’ve never understood why, with all of our own reserves, we’ve allowed this country to be held hostage by OPEC, the cartel of oil-producing countries, some of which are hostile to America,” he says.
To be fair, this oil explosion has been due, in large part, to the current administration’s push for fracking. Hydraulic fracturing technology makes up for nearly half of the current U.S. oil production, and with Trump’s selection it looks like America will continue that trend.
More cabinet choices will likely be made in the coming weeks, but we all know that whoever Trump picks, his selections will immediately be demonized. Today it is former governor Perry, but the roars will die down in a few days, and the world will keep on spinning. Hopefully, the future president will be able to carry out his promise of making America great again!
