Florida Teen Goes to School Without Bra, Is Shocked When School Makes Her Cover Her Nipples

A teenager in Bradenton, Florida, says she was shocked when school officials asked her to cover her nipples after she decided to show up to school without wearing a bra.

Lizzy Martinez, 17, said she had no bra on underneath her long-sleeved shirt when she was called into the dean’s office at Braden River High School. The girl was told her wardrobe choice was creating a “distraction.”

“She told me that I needed to put a shirt on under my long-sleeve shirt to try to tighten my breasts — to constrict them,” Martinez told the Bradenton Herald. “And then she asked me to move around.”

She was then reportedly asked by the school nurse to put bandages over her nipples to cover them up. The teen said she was left in tears over the incident.

“I decided not to wear a bra today and got pulled out of class bc one of my teachers complained that it was a ‘distraction to boys in my class.’ My school basically told me that boys’ education is far more important than mine and I should be ashamed of my body,” Martinez later tweeted.

A spokesperson for the school district said in a statement that the “matter should have been handled differently at the school level and corrective measures have been taken to prevent a reoccurrence in the way these matters will be addressed in the future.”

But now Martinez reportedly plans to not wear a bra at all in protest of what occurred at the school.

“Stop sexualizing my body @piratenationhs,” she said in a tweet to her school.
