One of America’s most beloved first families is celebrating 72 years of marriage, and have set the record for the longest married presidential couple.
George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara began dating before Bush was sent off to fight in WWII, where he was a Navy torpedo bomber pilot. While deployed, he would name each of his planes after his beloved: Barbara, Barbara II, and Barbara III.
When he returned on leave, the future president and future first-lady were married, and would begin an adventure that would ultimately lead them to the most powerful position in the world.
After 72 years, six kids, 14 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, it is safe to say the Bush family have lived incredibly busy lives, but the loving couple always made time for each other.
The two met while at a dance in Andover, Massachusetts, and were engaged a year-and-a-half later. I was shocked to find out they have been the longest married presidential couple.
They had a lot to live up to, following in the footsteps of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.
After all these years, these two still remain as one of the most beloved first-couples in our nation’s history.
Happy anniversary to George and Barbara Bush!
The real question is, will another first-family come in and take their crown? Here’s to 72 more years of marriage! God bless!
