The folks at Kentucky Fried Chicken are always pushing the envelope in their advertising efforts. But this latest contest has yielded some interesting results.
KFC has been encouraging patrons to be creative in helping them develop new products and are offering quite a reward for those who give good suggestions.
While the concept of asking for help from customers is nothing new, it is the prize itself that is something quite extraordinary. In fact, I’d venture to say the company would benefit tremendously from releasing their “prize” as a product, but that’s just one chicken-loving man’s opinion.
Oh, right, the contest. KFC is looking to expand their merchandise and are hoping to get some input by offering some merchandise of their own in exchange for suggestions. KFC New Zealand made the announcement on Facebook and based on the response, it turns out the company may have hit the jackpot with their “KFC Scented Candle.”
“What better way to light up your nights than with a limited edition KFC Scented Candle,” the fried-chicken mega-chain wrote in a post. “Keen? To go in the draw to win one just suggest another piece of KFC merchandise you’d like to see from us in the comments below! Winners drawn Monday!”
After over 15,000 people responded, the company decided to name Shiz Irani the winner, after suggesting that KFC stamps be made “because the Colonel always delivers” (that’s so brilliant). While the stamps may have been deemed the best idea, it turns out KFC may have hit a home-run with their candle, as Facebook users were enticed at the prospect of taking the scent of KFC home.
“Are you serious? A KFC scented candle?!? Where can I get these? I want that constant gurgle in my tummy that I get every time I smell those herbs and spices,” one Facebook user posted.
Clearly, KFC has a potential goldmine on their hands… or up their nose I guess.
This is a very cool way for KFC to engage with their patrons without taking an order, but I’m not sure if I’d like my house smelling like KFC. Then again, there are a lot worse smells out there. Would you want a fried chicken scented candle at home?!
