I don’t know how on earth school districts are still getting away with this, but once again we have another high school in America forcing kids to intently study Islam.
A former Marine and his wife are suing a Maryland public high school for forcing their daughter to attend class that showed favoritism toward the Muslim prophet Mohammed, including lessons in which students were taught “there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His prophet,” [the first pillar of Islam].
Time and time again we have seen one school after another show favoritism towards one religion – Islam – and spend practically no time on any other.
This honestly wouldn’t be a huge problem if the curriculum focused as much time on other religions (as Islam isn’t even the world’s most common religion). But a school has no right to tell a student that they will fail if they don’t participate in activities that go against their own religious convictions.
Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, had this to say on the matter:
“Such discriminatory treatment of Christianity is an unconstitutional promotion of one religion over another. The course also taught false statements such as Allah is the same God worshiped by Christians, and Islam is a ‘religion of peace’…A school cannot achieve diversity by punishing and alienating students who hold Judeo-Christian beliefs, while bolstering the doctrines and teachings of other religions. Parents must be ever vigilant to the Islamic indoctrination of their children under the guise of teaching history and multiculturalism. This is happening in public schools across the country. And they must take action to stop it.
Pastor Franklin Graham posted on his Facebook about the matter as follows:
No wonder this Marine veteran and his wife were outraged! News reports say their daughter’s public high school class in Maryland had to memorize the Five Pillars of Islam, profess the Muslim statement of faith, and were taught false statements such as Allah is the same God worshiped by Christians, that Islam is a religion of peace, and that the faith of a Muslim is stronger than the average Christian. She actually had to recite the Islamic Creed, “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.” They said that the brief section on Christianity didn’t cover any portion of the Bible or even the Ten Commandments, and she wasn’t allowed to have an alternate assignment! I think this class definitely deserves a failing grade! This family has filed a lawsuit to hopefully put a stop to it. As parents, as grandparents, and as citizens we have got to be on guard against the undermining of biblical truths and our religious freedoms. The Bible tells us, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13)
The Charles County School system released a statement in regards to their world history curriculum, but wouldn’t comment specifically on the lawsuit itself:
The particular unit in question is on the formation of Middle Eastern empires in which students learned the basic concepts of the Islamic faith and how it, along with politics, culture, economics and geography, contributed to the development of the Middle East. Other religions are introduced when they influence or impact a particular historical era or geographic region. For example, when reviewing the Renaissance and Reformation, students study the concepts and role of Christianity. When learning about the development of China and India, students examine Hinduism and Buddhism.
Now more than ever we need to be on guard as the world seems bent on teaching about anything except Jesus, but we know that He is the only way. We can’t allow our children’s minds to be polluted in schools by the same people who say praying isn’t allowed.
We need to put our foot down as Americans and say “we either teach all religions fairly, or we don’t teach any at all.” The nut-jobs in Washington D.C. can’t have it both ways.
