His Mom Was Deployed On His First Day Of School, Then She Sends The Best Surprise Ever

When a military mom realized she couldn’t take her son to school on his first day, she found an extraordinary way to make it special. This story warmed my heart!

Hunter Carlson wasn’t looking forward to his first day at school because his mother was far away serving our country. In fact, the 9-year-old was in tears even before he left home.

His mother, Tiffani Carlson, is a Sergeant Combat Medic and had been called for duty. Tiffani was devastated when she realized she wouldn’t able to see Hunter off to his first day of school.

The first day of school is a cherished memory between every parent and child — and the heartbreaking reality Tiffani and Hunter had to face has Americans remembering the sacrifices those who serve our country make every day.

“She’s never been gone this long,” Hunter said.

When I heard what Tiffani went through while missing Hunter’s first day of school, my respect and appreciation for the military grew even more. This broke my heart…

“It was awful. I woke up this morning knowing it was gonna be a rough morning for me I’ve already been kind of teary-eyed on and off,” Tiffani said.

As Hunter was crying before his first day of fourth grade, he had no idea his mom had prepared the greatest surprise ever! When he stepped out the house to leave for school, his surprise was waiting to wipe away those tears.

When Hunter grows up, he wants to be a CSI or FBI agent. Due to Hunter’s love for law enforcement, his mom wanted to surprise him with a police escort on his first day of school.

When Plano Police Chief Gregory W. Rushin heard about the story and request, he wanted the honor of taking Hunter to school himself before going to work.

But it’s what the Plano Police Department said afterwards that’s captivating America even more.

“Nothing can replace your mother on your first day of school but we certainly want to help as much as we could,” Rushin said.

Hunter went from missing his mom in tears, to being filled with pure joy in the presence of his beloved police officers. Before arriving to fourth grade in style, Hunter even talked shop with the chief.

“It’s a dream come true,” Hunter said.

What I love most about this story is the reminder of not only what the men and women serving our country sacrifice, but also the extraordinary ways police officers serve and protect the community.

“We had the privilege of meeting an outstanding young man and expressing our gratitude to his mother for her service and sacrifice to our country,” the Plano Police Department wrote on Facebook.
