Hollywood May Make Next Indiana Jones a Woman: ‘Nothing Wrong With That’

The fifth movie in the “Indiana Jones” franchise is set to start filming in April — and it will be Harris Ford’s final role as the famous archeologist. However, director Steven Spielberg says the franchise may go on without him.

“This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that,” Spielberg told the Sun.

In fact, Spielberg claimed the next Indiana Jones could be a woman.

“We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that,” the director added. Spielberg did not speculate about any actress he may have in mind for the role that has always been played by a man.

Spielberg spoke about his own mother while discussing the possibility of the female Indiana Jones character, providing some insight as to why he might be wanting to make the change.

“My mom was strong. She had a voice, she had a very strong opinion,” he said. “I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly — my mom and my wife.”
