President Donald Trump will reportedly appoint Patriots coach Bill Belichick to a new White House Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
A “source with direct knowledge” told Axios Trump will also appoint “golfer Natalie Gulbis, three-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor, retired Major League Baseball pitcher Mariano Rivera, retired NFL running back Herschel Walker, and Dr. Mehmet Oz.”
That’s quite the team.
Many of the members of the council are personal friends of Trump. In 2016, Trump infamously read a letter from Belichick at a campaign rally congratulating him on his “tremendous campaign.” Further, Walker and Gulbis appeared on “Celebrity Apprentice” while Trump was on the show.
In February, President Trump signed an executive order changing the focus of the council to encouraging kids to play sports and get involved in athletics. This is something that Ivanka Trump has been advocating for as well.
Former President Barck Obama’s version of the council focused mostly on nutrition, which was former First Lady Michelle Obama’s big initiative while in office.
