Thieves seem to be getting more creative and bold when it comes to breaking and entering. Thankfully social media is stumping their schemes and victims are stepping out and sharing their stories.
Burglars usually wait for the homeowner to leave before attempting to enter a house. That doesn’t seem to be the case these days.
Many parents stay home with children or even work from home. You would think this would deter someone from trying to gain entrance to your house. But think again. Thieves don’t care if your home. In fact — they are preying on mothers who stay at home.
Thankfully this mother, Kim Cernigliaro shared her story on Facebook to warn others about a horrifying new trend.
The mother of 3 shared, “Two weeks ago during the day, a hard knock was at my front door, not a regular knock but almost pounding … and I DO NOT answer the door when I am here by myself. I glanced around and could see it was a man through the stained glass of my door.”
Kim waited about 30 before going outside to see if the man had left anything on the front door. When she opened the door she was confused by what she found.
As she stood there searching her porch for a brochure, all she could find was a rubber band around the latch and door handle. Kim immediately took action and called the police. She was curious if they knew anything about this and if she should be concerned. As it turns out, police explained that this is a new tactic used by thieves.
The Lord was watching over Kim and her three kids that day, because she learned that this could have ended a lot differently.
The police warned her, “As soon as you unlatch the door, they do not wait for you to turn the knob, they can bust in on you.”
This way, when the homeowner unlocks the door, the intruder instantly has access. They want you to be home and they want you to be scared.
Kim taking caution in this situation was heroic. She didn’t give into the pressure of someone at her door. Kim proved that nothing is as important as keeping you and your family safe. And her story as a powerful reminder: Don’t second guess yourself when you’re home alone.
Remember to always be weary of the people that come to your door. Call the police if their is any concern about the activity around your house. You can never be too careful. Thank you Kim for shedding light on this epidemic.
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” Psalm 91:1-2
Kim did the right thing for her and her family. By not unlocking her door she may have saved her and her family’s life. Please share this terrifying new trend– by doing so, you may prevent a loved one from being terrorized.
