Winning back-to-back World Series with two different teams is seemingly unheard of and raises the question “do you need Ben Zobrist to win it all?”

The MVP of the 2016 MLB World Series has always been an outstanding ballplayer, but what most people don’t know is that Zobrist is quite outspoken about his faith in God.

And wouldn’t it be just like God to allow a moment for Zobrist to do what scripture tells us to do: “let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

“We know that as a Christian athlete, people are watching,” Zobrist says in a 2013 interview with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. “So we want to be the best example we can be and show that we are different – that Christ has changed our lives.”

Zobrist, whose father is a pastor in Illinois, is aware of the challenges he faces as a Christian athlete, but strives to live out his faith.

“I’m still learning,” he says. “I still have a lot to learn about what the love of Christ is like.”

“It’s not just knowledge … but it’s allowing the truth to change you – allowing Christ’s message of grace and hope and love through the cross, that that message is the message that changes the way we look at everything in our lives.” -Ben Zobrist

The three-time All Star, along with his wife, Julianna, have tried to use their celebrity status as a way to spread the Gospel. Ben’s walkup song this year was a Christian song titled “Alive,” that his wife recorded (she’s a Christian musician). The two have written books, such as Double Play in which they discuss their careers, their lives and the role that faith constantly plays.

“I want people to know that grace is for everyone,” Zobrist says. “We all need grace. We all need Christ.”

Ben Zobrist is setting an example with his actions, both on and off the field. I don’t know if there has been a better guy to have been named World Series MVP. Congratulations Ben. We thank you for being a warrior for Christ!
